HRH Prince Joachim and Marie Cavallier met during a hunt in Denmark in 2004, where Marie was invited by friends of hers.

Their engagement was announced on October 3, 2007.

Prince Joachim's two sons, Nikolai and Felix from his previews marriage to Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg were his best men.

The couple will reside at Schackenborg Manor in Møgeltønder and at Amalienborg Palace.
